Type Locality and Naming

Named after the Maysak, Zirabulak-Ziaetdin Mountains. S.K. Piven' et

Synonym: Mayzakskaya Formation, Майзакская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Divided into two sub-suites:

Upper - dolomitic limestones, slightly siliceous, massive and layered. Thickness 210m.

Lower - dark gray to black layered limestones with pinkish clayey material. Thickness 230m.


Lithology Pattern: 
Dolomitic limestone


Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Lower boundary stratigraphically conformable with the Dzhalkyr-Aymakhal Fm.

Upper contact

Overlain by a sequence of variably grained massive limestones with lenticular layers and nodules of early Emsian cherts.

Regional extent

Zirabulak-Ziaetdin Mountains, southwestern part of the Terikbaba Mountains, upper reaches of the Yarmanchi River basin.

Upper – Contains tabulates - Favosites sp. (cf. praeplacenta Dubat.), F. sp. (cf. oblongus Rukh.), F. cf. suspectus Dubat., F. ex gr. tomensis Mir., F. cf. finitimus Yanet.; conodonts - Polygnatus sp.

Lower – Contains conodonts - Ozarkodina sp. (cf. repetitor Caris et Gandl.), O. cf. typica denkmanni Ziegl.
